Henao, Luisa

Luisa Henao was born in Colombia and raised in New Jersey. She earned both her BFA and Master’s in Education from Montclair State University.

Henao is a visual artist and public school art teacher based in New York City. Her practice centers on immigrant experiences and communities, weaving her own dual identities into works primarily on paper.

Drawing from personal and collective histories, she explores themes of immigration, belonging, and cultural memory. Her work as an educator further enriches her artistic practice, creating meaningful connections with migrant communities and informing her approach in the studio.

She has exhibited throughout the Northeast, including at Palladium/Athena Project, Equity Gallery, Gallery 198, BWAC, El Barrio’s Artspace, and Culture Lab LIC. She is currently based in Brooklyn, NY.
